the best way to free-up dwindling space on my diskdrive

My computer is slowing down more and more as I use up more diskdrive space. It is an older computer but has been super reliable until very recently. What is the most effective way to free-up hard drive space to allow Windows to be more efficient?

Dear jonathan,

Thank you for posting your question on our forum.

Here are a few things you could try:

1. Verify and install all available Windows updates (search Windows Update Center via Start menu).

2. Remove unused software (BoostSpeed > All Tools > Uninstall Manager).

3. Use BoostSpeed > All Tools > Startup Manager > Startup Programs to prevent unwanted applications from starting automatically when Windows logs on. Over time, a computer accumulates a number of auto-start programs that could consume your CPU and RAM excessively.

4. Maintain a clutter-free, optimized system (BoostSpeed > My Scanner).

5. Use Add-ons Manager (BoostSpeed > All Tools > Add-ons Manager) to disable any unneeded browser add-ons.

6. Compact your OS and remove any unnecessary Windows components (BoostSpeed > All Tools > Windows Slimmer).

7. Make use of Duplicate File Finder. This utility (BoostSpeed > All Tools > Duplicate File Finder) searches your entire PC for duplicate files and deletes them automatically to free up space.

8. Get rid of malware. Use your antivirus to scan your system when it has been updated. Try Auslogics Anti-Malware https://www.auslogics.com/en/software/anti-malware as an alternative to do a malware scan.

9. Additionally, we advise starting disk defragmentation using the "Disk Defrag" tool, which you can find under the "All Tools" menu, to optimize file placement on your disk drives.

Should you have any other questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
