Random ping spikes

Here is what you can try:

1. Use a VPN to address Task Manager Ethernet or WiFi spikes.

Despite the fact that VPN slows down internet speed, it can also improve connection clarity. If your ISP throttles your internet connection or reroutes you over crowded networks, a VPN might be helpful.

2. Turn off your security software.

You need to switch off or disable the Windows firewall or any firewall provided by third-party security software in order to determine if a firewall is the root of the ping spikes. If the ping spikes stop, check if your security software settings are applied specifically to the games in question.

- Open Settings (Win + I) => Privacy and Security option

- Select Windows Security, click “Firewall and network protection”

Try the following options:

- permit an app through firewall

- click on Advanced settings to access the Windows Defender Firewall window

- under the Outbound and Inbound rule, look for the blocked section and see if it applies to your circumstance

- disable or change the rule as you prefer.

3. Update network drivers.

• If so, update it and restart the computer.

6. Switch to Google DNS.

• Look for the DNS Server assignment or settings, then select Edit.

• Change the settings to Manual from Automatic and choose between IPv4 and IPv6.

• Preferred 8.8.8.8

• Alternative: 8.8.4.4

• Save the modifications.

7. Update Windows or revert to a previous update.

Though unlikely, it can happen. The ping spike issues might be resolved by a current update, or they might have been caused by a recent upgrade. You have the option of rolling back a recent update or updating Windows and related drivers.

8. Exit unwanted background programs that consume bandwidth.

It's better to end background processes on your computer that can be using up your network resources. High ping can be caused by insufficient bandwidth, which can affect the amount of time it takes for data to be sent out and subsequently returned.

• Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc.

• Click the Network column to sort the results by bandwidth or network consumption.
